Answered Through Questions

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
2 “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Job 38:1-4

God was writing a cosmic story but he didn’t give Job the script,

And once it all started Job could do nothing but find the dust and sit.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away,

These are the words only a humble man would say.

After all, Job was stripped of everything that he held dear,

The storm was raging in Job’s life, he could have cursed God in fear.

Sure he began to waver and his words became too many,

But there was a reason God told Satan Job amongst others was unlike any.

You see, the unanswered questions about God and his ways,

These eventually overwhelm us all but what then will we say?

The proud man finds the unanswered questions a reason to doubt,

Because God is silent, the proud begin to point and shout.

Where were you, God, when my life was falling apart!

And why haven’t you answered all my questions, like how did all of life even start!

If you were real, if you really were out there,

Then you would obviously answer every question to show that you care.

To the proud, their lack of comprehending God is all the evidence they need,

They were just looking for the first reason to get up and leave.

But Job sat down and looked up from the dust,

Rather than run he simply decided to trust.

And when God finally arrived and began to speak,

Job dropped even lower and his knees became weak.

God answered all of Jobs questions by asking him more,

Through Chapters 38 to 41, God’s inquisition was like a war.

He pounded Job with question after question, with no answers in sight,

God reminded Job, that when it comes to wisdom, no one but God will win this fight.

All the unanswered questions, all the blank space in the plot,

God was reminding Job, God is God and Job was not.

To the humble, the infinite amount of unanswered questions is no reason to run,

For what type of God would he be if the mystery was all of sudden undone.

If man could know all the mind of our Creator and Lord

This would not prove his existence, it would be the knife cutting the cord.

His abundance of knowledge is the reason he is so above the rest,

And if he was as simple minded as us, the entire universe would be a complete and utter mess.

So to the proud, the questions are a hurdle which cannot be overcome,

But to the humble, like Job, all of the unanswered questions only embolden our belief in the Son.
