5 Prayers to Offer to God If You Want to Be Married

Matthew 6:10

Finding the person God has for you is not just about waiting passively or rushing ahead in your own strength. It is about seeking the Lord, aligning your desires with his will, and praying with a heart that is open to his leading.

Here are five powerful prayers rooted in Scripture that you can pray as you ask God to reveal “the one” to you.

1. Pray for God’s Will Above Your Own

Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

The first step in seeking God’s revelation about your future spouse is surrendering your will. Often, we come to God with a list of demands or a picture-perfect idea of who we want to marry. But true love is discovered when we are aligned with God’s will. Jesus himself taught us to pray that God’s will would be done. If we cannot yield our desires to him, we risk choosing someone based only on outward appearances or personal preferences rather than godly wisdom.

Surrendering your will doesn’t mean God ignores your desires. It means he purifies them, shaping them into something even better than you imagined. When you place your future in his hands, you are freed from the anxiety of control and released into the peace of trust.

Pray, “Father, I surrender my plans and desires to You. Not my will, but yours be done in my love life. Shape my heart to want what you want, and reveal ‘the one’ to me in your perfect timing.”

2. Pray for Eyes to See and Ears to Hear Who God Is Highlighting

1 Samuel 16:7, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Just as Samuel almost overlooked David when anointing Israel’s next king, we can miss what God is doing if we only judge by appearances.

Without your spiritual sense being blessed by the Holy Spirit, you will be unable to notice what God is doing. Proverbs 20:12 (NLT), “Ears to hear and eyes to see – both are gifts from the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 2:14, “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”

If you want a biblical spouse, you must have biblical eyes and ears so you can see the biblical qualities this person has. And the only way to have biblical eyes and ears is to invite the Holy Spirit to bless your eyes and ears.

Pray, “Lord, open my eyes to see the person you are highlighting for me. Remove distractions, break false expectations, and help me notice the godly character and heart that reflect your will.”

3. Pray for Patience to Trust God’s Timing

Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

Many grow weary and settle for less than God’s best because waiting feels too long. But Scripture reminds us that God makes everything beautiful in his time. His timing is not late—it is perfect.

Expressing patience is not easy, but it is essential. Impatience can push you into relationships that end in heartbreak. Patience, however, teaches you to rest in God’s process, knowing he is preparing both you and your future spouse for a union that reflects his glory.

Pray, “Heavenly Father, help me trust your timing. Teach me to wait with faith and patience, knowing that you produce the right fruit during the right season. Keep me from rushing ahead of your plan.”

4. Pray for a Pure and Prepared Heart

Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

Before asking God to reveal the right person, it is wise to pray for God to prepare your own heart. A godly marriage is not only about finding the right partner but also about becoming the right partner. If your heart is weighed down with bitterness, unconfessed sin, or unhealthy expectations, it will be difficult to step into the relationship God has for you.

A pure heart seeks God first, allowing him to cleanse and restore. This prayer is about letting God refine your character, heal past wounds, and grow you into someone who can love and serve selflessly in marriage. When you allow God to purify you, you are more ready to receive his blessings with gratitude and humility.

Prayer, “Lord, cleanse my heart and prepare me for the person you have for me. Heal me from past hurts, purify my thoughts, and help me become the kind of spouse who honors you in marriage.”

5. Pray for Supernatural Confirmation and Peace

Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Even when God brings the right person into your life, doubts can creep in. This is why it is crucial to pray for confirmation and peace. God does not lead with confusion but with clarity. His peace is the signpost of his will—it surpasses human logic and steadies your heart even when circumstances are uncertain.

Praying for confirmation is not about demanding a miraculous sign, but about asking God to affirm your steps through Scripture, godly counsel, and inner peace. When God reveals “the one,” his Spirit brings assurance that quiets fear and strengthens faith.

Prayer, “Father, I ask for your peace to guard my heart. If a relationship is from you, confirm it through your word and give me assurance that aligns with your truth. Let your peace be my guide.”
