5 Items that Invite Demons Into Your Home

1 John 5:21

Your home is meant to be a place of peace, rest, and protection. Yet many people unknowingly open spiritual doors that allow the enemy to sow fear, confusion, and bondage within their households. The Bible makes it clear that Satan and his demons are always seeking entry points (1 Peter 5:8). While believers cannot be possessed if they belong to Christ, they can be oppressed, harassed, or spiritually weakened by inviting in demonic influences.

Here are five common items that can invite demons into your home and what you can do instead to guard your space with God’s truth.

1. Items that Are Being Used to Hold onto Hurt and Unforgiveness

2 Corinthians 2:10-11, “Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.”

Unforgiveness is a tool that Satan uses to corrupt your life. Thus, he will use items, like an old letter from an angry ex, to foster your hatred and unforgiveness and bring evil into your home. Additionally, old pictures that are used to stoke resentment of someone who hurt you could open spiritual doors for evil. Or even past gifts that someone gave you that remind you of how much they wronged you, leading to your increased bitterness, can be used against you.

I’m not saying you need to get rid of things from people from your past if these items aren’t having a bad effect on you. But if they are and you aren’t forgiving someone, remove these items and forgive this person so that your home can be a spiritually pure place for you.

2. Items that Are Being Used to Enflame Your Anger and Hatred Towards Other People

Ephesians 4:26-27, “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.”

The Bible is clear that one open door the enemy uses to gain access to our lives is unrighteous anger. There is a form of anger that is not a sin. But the type of anger that leads to sin is the type of anger that is prolonged and prevents forgiveness. We are never to condone evil. But when evil is done against us, we are called to forgive so hatred doesn’t get a foothold in our lives.

Thus, Satan will use items as emotional triggers to stoke the fires of our unrighteous anger. Are you watching video after video of people from the other political side that are simply enraging you? It’s good to be informed, but is your information gathering simply fueling your toxic hatred for the people who hate you? Or are you always checking your phone to keep tabs on your enemies? If so, Satan could be using these items, like your phone or computer, to bring demonic forces into your home.

One of two things needs to happen in instances like these. You either need to remove the items being used to cause your unrighteous anger, or you need to sanctify your use of these items so that you can use them in holier ways.

3. Items Used for Witchcraft and Necromancy (Ouija Boards, Tarot Cards, Crystals)

“There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer.” (Deuteronomy 18:10)

Let’s say someone smuggled a Ouija board into your house, hid it, and then didn’t tell you. Would that be an open portal to demonic forces? I don’t believe so. I believe that demons oppress us when we invite them in through our personal sin. Sin requires your choice.

Thus, I’m not saying that if you come in contact with an occult item, you are inviting demons.

I’m also not saying that all crystals are demonic. For example, maybe you use them for jewelry or decoration, but don’t use them for evil purposes. As Christians, we don’t need to fear objects. The point, rather, is to never mess with spiritually evil practices like witchcraft, sorcery, or necromancy.

Burn or throw away anything linked to the use of occult practices (Acts 19:19).

4. Pornography and Sexually Explicit Reading Material

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:3)

Pornography and inappropriate romance novels aren’t just a private sin—it’s a demonic foothold. Sexual immorality is one of the enemy’s favorite weapons because it corrupts something God made holy. Keeping pornography, magazines, explicit movies, books with graphic sexual stories, or even seductive images stored on devices invites lust, shame, and impurity into your home.

Purge all explicit material from your devices, phones, or shelves. Confess sexual sin to God, seek accountability, and invite the Holy Spirit to cleanse your thoughts (1 John 1:9).

5. Anything that You Idolize

2 Corinthians 6:16, “What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God.”

Idols aren’t just little statues that you bow down to. They can be anything, including material possessions that have taken your allegiance away from Christ. Perhaps you own jewelry that you value in an unholy way. Perhaps you have pictures of a loved one that have become like an idol shrine. Or maybe you idolize food.

If something is not inherently evil but you are using it in an idolatrous way, you don’t have to get rid of it. Just repent of the idolatry and put your desires back in their proper place. In this way, you are closing the door to the spiritual warfare that is entering through that portal of sin.

As 1 John 5:21 states, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”
