5 Things God Does to Prepare Your Heart to Recognize The One

John 10:27

Finding the person God has prepared for you is not only about meeting the right person at the right time, it’s also about God preparing your heart to recognize them when they appear.

Sometimes, we expect “The One” to come packaged in fireworks and instant certainty, but in truth, God often works beneath the surface of our hearts to shape, refine, and prepare us. Like a gardener tilling the soil before planting seeds, God ensures that your heart is ready to embrace his gift in his perfect timing.

Here are five things God is doing to prepare your heart to recognize the one.

And the deadline to enroll in AGW University closes tonight at 11:59pm. If you would like four one-on-one coaching sessions with me, lifetime access to all of my relationship training courses for Christian singles who want to be married, 365 days of ongoing email coaching, and a host of other tools to help you in your season of preparation for a relationship, then click here before the deadline passes by.

1. To Prepare You to Recognize Your Future Spouse, God Will First Be Teaching You to Listen to His Voice Generally

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

Before you can recognize the right person, you need to be able to recognize the Shepherd’s voice in general. If you never know when God is speaking to you, you won’t all of sudden know when he is speaking to you about your future spouse.

God prepares your heart by teaching you how to distinguish his voice from the noise of the world. This means learning how he leads you through prayer, the Scriptures, wise counsel from others, and those gentle nudges of the Holy Spirit expressed through circumstances in your life.

Imagine being in a crowded train station filled with voices and announcements of people you don’t know. But if someone you have a close relationship with calls your name, you instantly recognize it because you’ve grown familiar with their voice. In the same way, when you learn to hear God’s voice clearly throughout the course of your life, when those moments come where he is revealing “the one” to you, you won’t miss his leading.

2. To Prepare You to Recognize Your Future Spouse, God Will Be Healing Old Wounds and Breaking Strongholds in Your Life

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

Sometimes, God cannot bring the right person into your life until he has healed the pain from past relationships, betrayals, or disappointments. If you carry unhealed wounds, you may misinterpret love through the lens of fear or rejection. God prepares your heart by mending what is broken so that you can love without fear and receive love without suspicion.

Think of a cracked mirror. No matter who stands in front of it, their reflection will appear distorted. Unless what is broken is made whole, you will never see the truth clearly. Unless your heart is healed, you may not recognize the one God has chosen for you because you’ll be seeing things in a distorted way.

3. To Prepare You to Recognize Your Future Spouse, God Will Be Developing Christlike Patience in You

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.” (1 Corinthians 13:4)

Without patience, you will be assuming every new person you meet who is a Christian and who is attractive to you will be your future spouse. Also, God teaches patience so that when you do finally meet your future spouse, you don’t rush ahead or act out of desperation, which could push them away. Instead, you will allow the relationship to grow at God’s pace, nurturing it with trust and humility.

A farmer doesn’t plant seeds and expect fruit the next day. He waters, waits, and trusts the process. Likewise, God is preparing your heart to patiently tend to a relationship rather than demanding immediate results. Patience is the soil where true love can flourish.

4. To Prepare You to Recognize Your Future Spouse, God Will First Teach You What Real Love Looks Like

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7)

Many people confuse attraction, infatuation, or emotional highs with true love. But when your heart is trained by God, you learn that real love sacrifices, forgives, and endures. This understanding equips you to recognize the difference between a fleeting spark and a holy, lasting flame.

Think of counterfeit money. At first glance, it can look almost identical to the real thing. But when a banker is trained to study authentic bills closely, they can immediately spot the fake. Similarly, when God teaches you his definition of love, you’ll quickly recognize the real thing when it comes.

5. To Prepare You to Recognize Your Future Spouse, God Will Be Deepening Your Dependence on Him

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

God doesn’t want you to look to a spouse as your ultimate source of joy, security, or identity. That place belongs to Christ alone. He is preparing your heart to recognize “The One” by making sure you are rooted in Jesus first. When your heart is satisfied in Christ, you won’t idolize another person or expect them to fill needs that only God can meet.

A tree with deep roots can withstand storms. Likewise, when your roots are deep in God, you can embrace marriage with strength, knowing your ultimate source is Christ, not your spouse.

Just like a gardener prepares the soil long before the harvest, God is preparing your heart now so that when the right person comes along, you will not miss them.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, the deadline to enroll in AGW University will close tonight at 11:59pm.

I’m not promising you lavish blessings if you enroll in this coaching program and if you take these courses. However, what I can promise you is that if you are in a season of life where you are prepared to work hard and truly study what the word of God says about relationships, you will grow immensely by enrolling in AGW University. And while I would never claim to have a secret marriage formula, I have created a wise blueprint that you can follow to increase your chances of meeting the one God might have for you.

I believe so much in the biblical information packed into this program that I offer a 14-day money back guarantee for anyone not fully satisfied with their experience, no questions asked. Here’s what a few recent students have said about their experiences:

If you enroll before the deadline, which is tonight at 11:59pm, you will get:

  • Four one-on-one individual coaching sessions with me. These take place over Zoom or a phone call. Whether you want my help with a specific issue or relationship situation or you want me to help you form a biblical plan for your relationship desires, this is your opportunity to work with me if you feel I can help you. This is where you can share your personal story with me and you and I can create an individualized plan just for you to help you follow the Lord’s leading in your life specifically.
  • Lifetime access to all 7 relationship training courses, which is a total of 73 in-depth biblical classes. Each class has a video and the content is all in writing as well.
  • You will also get lifetime access to the AGW University private Facebook group. This is where all the students can come together, share their struggles, make new friends, and learn from each other. I started this group as a little side bonus, but it has since blossomed into a thriving, encouraging community of likeminded people. This group has over 1000 students in it thus far. (You don’t need to join this group to get the course information. This group is just for those of you who want the community and connection with other AGW students.)
  • Also, if you enroll before the deadline, I’m giving you one year of email coaching with me. In addition to the four one-on-one sessions, this is where I can offer you ongoing support moving forward.

Again, this is not a magical formula. Rather, this is an invitation to those of you who desire to go to the next level and receive specialized relationship training that stems right from God’s word.

Click here and you can see all the course content and all the other bonuses I haven’t even mentioned yet. I’ll see you over at AGW University.

God bless!
