When you really want to be married one day but you are single for longer than you wanted, it’s natural to ask yourself, “What am I doing wrong?”
Maybe you heard God say, “That is the man you will marry one day.” Or maybe you felt God said, “That woman will come back into your life one day.” Or maybe you sensed God whispering, “Don’t worry, I will bless you with a better job soon.”
We know the Bible says to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). So why isn’t God removing your romantic feelings for someone who is not a Christian?
When Satan attacks, usually he doesn’t use overt tactics. We might imagine lights flickering, a person with a deep voice uttering evil spells, or some other visible mark of demonic influence. However, Satan knows he is more effective from the shadows, when we don’t know he’s working, so we then do not resist his evil will (James 4:7).
If you are a Christian woman who reads her Bible, I’m sure you already know a lot of red flags to watch out for when it comes to men. You know a man is not acting biblically if he pushes for sex before marriage, if he is sending you mixed signals, or if he is idolizing you.
When you get into a godly relationship with a Christian man, how will you know if you love him enough to actually marry him? Will you make a mistake? Will you have doubts on your future wedding day, whenever that may be?
I believe God allows us to experience disappointments in life so that we can experience something even better. In other words, we often have to let go of what we thought we needed and wanted so we can then receive what God knows we actually need and want.
It shouldn’t be our normal practice to block people from our lives in an extreme way. If, for example, you like a man but it doesn’t work out, you may need to distance yourself for a bit so you can move on; but it’s not necessary to go to severe lengths so there is no evidence of his presence at all in your life.
