4 Things God Is Accomplishing Through Your Season of Waiting

Why Is God Making You Wait?

why is God making me wait

Lamentations 3:25-27

It’s hard to know what God is up to in your life when you are in a season of waiting on the Lord. Perhaps you are waiting for the right job, the right word of confirmation, or the right relationship. But why is God making you wait so long?

Here are 4 things the Lord might be accomplishing through your season of waiting.

1. Through Your Waiting, God Will Teach You About His Goodness

God does not always give us what we want when we want it. But God does always give us what we need. What we need most is God himself and through our waiting for an external blessings God will often teach us that he alone can provide the internal satisfaction we desperately crave.

Lamentations 3:25-27 state, “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.” When we learn that God alone brings the salvation we need, this matures us for many seasons of life still ahead of us. Sometimes the only way to learn this important lesson is through a season of waiting.

By learning about the goodness of the Lord in our waiting, we are being prepared to still honor God first and foremost in our lives when we do finally receive that blessing we have been waiting for.

2. Through Your Waiting God Is Making You Stronger

Waiting is not easy. One of the benefits, however, of doing things that are not easy is that we are strengthened in the process. If God always gave us a comfortable and pampered life, we would be spiritually out of shape Christians unprepared for the war zones of real life.

God loves us so much he allows us to go through hard things because he knows these trials will strengthen us into mighty warriors fit for service in the kingdom of God.

Isaiah 40:30-31 states, “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Psalm 27:14 also says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

Throughout Scripture we can see a direct link between waiting and being strengthened by God. When God strengthens you in the waiting, he also is equipping you for the season of blessing ahead.

3. Through Your Waiting, God Is Developing the Character You Need to Receive the Blessings He Has for You

Sometimes God is not giving you that promotion at work because you are not ready to handle that level of leadership. Sometimes God is not giving you a clear answer because he knows you are not ready to obey it once he gives it. Sometimes God withholds the relationship you desire because you are not fully ready to honor him in that relationship yet.

God has a purpose for your season of waiting, and one of the main purposes he has for you in the waiting is to mature your character so you are prepared for the blessing he desires to give you. James 1:2-4 says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

4. Through Waiting, God Is Giving You Opportunities to Show Your Faithfulness to Him

Trials in life are also opportunities to receive blessings from God when you pass the tests. If you were never tested, you would not have the chances to honor God and thus reap the rewards. For example, James 1:12 states, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

Your season of waiting can be a test from God. Oftentimes the sooner you pass the test, the sooner you can move on into a new season of life. Just like a class in school, you often need to keep repeating that class until you learn what you need to learn and are able to pass the final exam. Likewise, sometimes you remain in a season of waiting because you have not yet learned the lessons God needs you to learn before you can move on.

Don’t Waste Your Season of Waiting

Truthfully, we can’t always know why God is making us wait for something we deeply desire. There are many more reasons than the ones we’ve listed here. However, what we must remember is that God always has a purpose for our season of waiting and it is up to us not to waste it.

There’s lessons God wants you to learn right now while you wait which will benefit you for the rest of your life. There are blessings God wants to give you right now through the sufferings you will endure in your waiting. There are is good God wants to give you even as you wait.

You only get to live each moment once in life. Make sure you receive what God is giving you in every moment. When the moment passes, it’s gone forever. You must not waste your season of waiting.
