When Satan wants to destroy a woman’s life, he often doesn’t come with horns and a pitchfork. Rather, he often uses a man as an agent for evil in her life.
A man can either be a blessing that points you closer to God, or a curse that pulls you away from him. The devil’s counterfeit always looks appealing at first. But once you look beneath the surface, the fruit always reveals the root (Matthew 7:16).
Here are four biblical marks of a man sent by Satan to ruin your life.
1. A Man Sent By Satan to Ruin Your Life Tries to Dethrone God’s Word as the Final Authority in Your Life
2 Timothy 3:6-7, “For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”
This verse is not saying that all women are weak. However, it does state that there are evil men who are looking for weak women so they can lead them astray. And notice that these types of men are marked by an inability to “arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”
Thus, if a man is presenting you with ideas that contradict the plain meaning of Scripture, this man is being used by Satan to bring you harm. A man like this may even use Scripture to support his arguments, but he will be twisting the word to make it mean something it doesn’t actually mean. For example:
- He may not profess Jesus as Lord; but he may say that God is love, which is true. He will then talk about how you two love each other. However, he will then say, “How could God not want us together if we have true love for each other?”
- He may highlight the truth that God made sex for a husband and wife to express love to each other. But then he may say something like, “We are going to get married, so why would God be mad if we had sex together to show our love for each other?”
- He may tempt you by saying something untrue like, “The Bible has been changed over the years. In the original Greek, sexual immorality was just talking about orgies. Sex between one man and woman is biblical even if they are not married.”
The point is, a man sent by Satan to ruin your life will be marked by smooth talk that completely contradicts the clear teachings of Scripture.
2. A Man Sent By Satan to Ruin Your Life Will Use Flattery to Control You
Proverbs 26:28, “A flattering mouth works ruin.”
Absalom was handsome, charming, and persuasive. The Bible says, “In all Israel there was no one so much to be praised for his handsome appearance” (2 Samuel 14:25). But behind his charm was manipulation. He stood at the city gate, flattering people to win their hearts and steal his father’s kingdom (2 Samuel 15:1-6).
The Absalom-type man knows exactly what to say to make you feel special. He showers you with praise, attention, and affection—not because he loves you, but because he wants control. Once he feels he has your heart, his true motives emerge: pride, dominance, and deceit.
A godly man doesn’t need to flatter you to gain your loyalty. He earns your trust through humility, truth, and consistent character. He doesn’t want to steal your heart—he wants to guard it (Proverbs 4:23).
3. A Man Sent By Satan to Ruin Your Life Pretends to Love God but Secretly Serves Himself
Matthew 15:8, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”
Judas Iscariot followed Jesus for years, yet his heart was never truly converted. Outwardly, he looked like one of the disciples. Inwardly, however, he was driven by greed and self-interest. When Mary anointed Jesus with expensive perfume, Judas criticized her, pretending to care about the poor—when in reality, he was stealing from the money bag (John 12:4-6).
A Judas-type man may go to church, post Bible verses, and say all the right things. But his fruit will eventually betray him. When being kind to you no longer benefits him, he’ll betray you.
A man truly sent by God will serve God when no one is watching. Like Boaz who sought to bless Ruth before he knew she was romantically interested in him (Ruth 2:8-13), so too will a godly man have an authentic concern for your wellbeing.
4. A Man Sent By Satan to Ruin Your Life Will Try to Makes You Doubt God’s Timing
1 Samuel 13:12, “Saul said, ‘I have not sought the favor of the Lord. So I forced myself, and offered the burnt offering.’”
King Saul was destroyed by impatience. When Samuel didn’t arrive on time to perform the sacrifice, Saul panicked. He decided to take matters into his own hands—violating God’s command and exposing his lack of trust (1 Samuel 13:8-14).
Many single Christian women fall for Saul-type men because they seem proactive and confident. But beneath that surface of their leadership is rebellion against God’s timing. You’ll know you’re dealing with a Saul-type man when he’s impatient, controlling, and uses emotional pressure to get what he wants from you.
A godly man waits for God’s timing. He leads with peace, not panic.
Don’t be afraid to walk away from evil men like these four types. God’s man for you will never require you to disobey God to keep him (Proverbs 10:22).
