5 Signs God Protected You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

Isaiah 46:10

God’s love is so much greater than we can even know. Sometimes he’s spared you of immense pain you didn’t even realize you were in danger of experiencing.

Therefore, if you are a woman, here are 5 signs that often mean God is protecting you from a man who would have ended up hurting you.

1. By Always Allowing a Circumstantial Blocker to Keep You Two Apart, God Will Protect You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

When things aren’t happening the way you feel they should have happened, it can feel like God is against you. But what if, because God is for you, these things did not happen the way you wanted? What if, in love, not neglect, God allowed the circumstances to keep you away from a man who would have ended up hurting you?

In C.S. Lewis’ book called The Horse and His Boy, Shasta is confronted with the lion, Aslan. He complains about all the troubles this lion has caused him. Aslan answered:

I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you.”

When you don’t have God’s perspective, his actions might seem cruel and unloving. But you must trust God’s providence. He knows the future and foresees possibilities you could never imagine (Isaiah 46:10).

If there’s always something blocking you two from being together, this is a strong sign this is the wrong man for you.

2. By Always Allowing a Moral Blocker to Keep You Two Apart, God Will Protect You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

While God can put circumstantial blockers in our path to prevent us from getting hurt by someone, eventually he wants us to mature to the point where we can make wise decisions that keep us safe.

When you are obeying God’s laws and living a moral life, this will push immoral people away from you. Many times they will reject you because they are convicted by your lifestyle. Sometimes, however, they will try to tempt you into sin with them. The Holy Spirit will give you a strong conviction (John 16:8) in these moments, “Don’t do it. This will lead to you getting very hurt if you walk down this road with this man.”

You may be able to overcome (i.e ignore) these moral barriers and ignore God’s correction, but in your conscience, you will know you are running through road barriers meant to keep you safe.

3. By Always Allowing a Timing Blocker to Keep You Two Apart, God Will Protect You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

You certainly can meet the right person at the wrong time. However, many times it feels like the wrong time simply because it is the wrong person.

One way you will know if this is the right person at the wrong time is by waiting to see if anything changes. If nothing changes and this relationship doesn’t happen in a realistic timeframe, this is a strong sign this is not the person God has for you.

Pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

4. By Always Allowing a Logical Blocker to Keep You Two Apart, God Will Protect You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

One of the main ways God keeps us safe is by encouraging us to use the minds he’s given us. Again, God will protect us sometimes by doing things outside of our control. But he won’t always do this. He wants us to mature to the point where we can use our minds and actively follow him in a personal way.

1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” If you are picking up on things with this man that just don’t make sense, if his story is beginning to contradict the more you get to know him, if he answers your questions with longwinded statements that don’t actually answer your question – don’t ignore this! If a man can’t make it make sense to you, it doesn’t make sense.

God is protecting you through helping you see the absence of logical reasons to trust this man.

5. By Always Allowing a Desire Blocker to Keep You Two Apart, God Will Protect You from a Man Who Would Have Hurt You

It’s wise to give a guy a chance. It’s helpful to give him time. It’s definitely possible for your feelings to change.

However, if you force yourself to like someone, you might be ignoring a warning from God. If you think God is giving you a relationship you don’t want, it’s not God. Psalm 37:4 states that God will give you the desires of your heart if you delight in him. It doesn’t say he will force you to take a blessing you don’t want.

Never try to force yourself to like someone. Your absence of a desire for this man or his lack of desire for you is good evidence it’s not the right man for you.
