Here are ten Bible passages and prayers that can help you seek the Lord for the breakthrough you desire.
1. Matthew 6:9-10,
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Prayer: Father God, above every desire I have, I choose you. More than anything I want, help to pray like Jesus. Help me to desire what you desire. May your kingdom come and may your will be done in my life. I submit myself to you and I trust that your plan is better than my plan. I know you want me to ask you for what I want, and I know you delight in blessing your children. But I also know I am limited in my knowledge and you are limitless in yours. Show me what to pray for, show me how to pray, and guide my steps. Your ways are best. Therefore, may your way be my way.
2. Proverbs 16:3,
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Prayer: Lord, I commit my desires to you. The things I want, I give them to you. My heart is yours. I know the desires I have are not bad, but I know they can become bad if I start worshipping what I want rather than worshiping you. May the things I want be used to serve you. May the desires I have bring you glory. Show me how to commit my work to you, because I know that without you, nothing good can happen. But with you and your blessing, I know my good and your glorification will be accomplished.
3. Matthew 7:7-11,
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Prayer: Father, I know that you are good and you desire to give good things to your children. I’m sorry for the ways I have doubted your goodness. I confess the sins I’ve committed over the years where I have doubted you. I know a delay is not a denial. And I also know that if you do deny me anything, it’s because you know it’s not good for me. Father, mature me so that the desires I have will be good for me. Remove anything from my heart, mind, and life that are hindering you from blessing me with the good I desire from you. In obedience with your word, I simply ask you for what I want. I knock on your door, knowing you will answer.
4. Isaiah 54:15-17 (NIV),
“‘If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you. See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the Lord.”
Prayer: O Lord, I know I will be attacked in this evil world, but I know these harmful attacks are not from you. I know that you will turn what the enemy means for evil and use it for my good. May your promise to Israel be applied to me here. May no weapon formed against me prevail, and may you give be the courage and strength to break down the barriers blocking your breakthrough from exploding into my life. By your power and might, may you allow me to flourish and receive the good desires of my heart despite all the opposition coming against me. Only you can do this. I fully submit myself to you. You are my protector.
5. Ephesians 3:14-19,
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Prayer: Because of you Jesus, I know I can boldly come into the presence of our loving Heavenly Father. I bend my knee before you God. And I know that your love for me is so vast that my human mind cannot even comprehend it. May you enlarge the capacity of my mind through the power of your Spirit that I might get a greater glimpse of your glorious love. I have desires I hope you fulfill in this lifetime, but more than all of these desires, I know my greatest need is for the love of Christ to fill me with all the fulness of God. May I be filled with your love like never before.
6. Ephesians 3:20-21,
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
Prayer: Father, you know what I think, you know what I ask for, and I know that your power goes far beyond my comprehension to accomplish your will. I know I can never out ask your power. I know that no matter what I ask for, it will never be better than your plan. You truly are able to do far more abundantly than all I ask for or think of, according to your power at work within me, for your glory, through Jesus Christ, forever and ever.
7. Psalm 37:3-6,
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, I choose to trust you. Even when my feeling betray me, I choose to ignore my feelings and I choose to trust your words and promises. Help me to always trust you and to always do good. May I prosper where you have planted me and may I be faithful always. Above all, I choose to delight myself in you as I know that is the ultimate breakthrough my heart always needs most. You are the main desire of my heart, and when I delight in you I have what I want. I commit my way fully to you, knowing that you will act on my behalf in your good timing.
8. 2 Corinthians 3:15-18,
“Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
Prayer: I turn to you Lord, knowing that whenever anyone does this, your Spirit, your presence, brings freedom. You open my eyes to what I could not see before. You open my heart to your truths. May I continue to seek your face, may I continue to pursue your presence, and may I continue to be transformed as you reveal more and more of yourself to me by grace. All this comes from you Lord. Thank you that your Spirit is always with me.
9. 2 Corinthians 4:7-11,
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.”
Prayer: I’m sorry Father, for always wanting the easiest path forward. Thank you that you love me too much to spare me of the good pain in life. Heal me of the bad pain, the pain meant for evil, and please turn this into good pain, the type that transforms me more and more into your image. I know my life will end one day, but your work will always continue. May you use me while I’m here, using the earthly for your eternal glory. May I always be doing your will, that I might always be in your presence. May the breakthrough of worldliness to heavenliness occur in me.
10. 1 Corinthians 15:54-58,
“‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
Prayer: I have experienced many mini-deaths during this life, Lord. I have felt the sting of death and the shame of sin. But through you, Jesus Christ, my savior, I know that all of that is swallowed up in victory. I do ask for the desires you have put on my heart to be granted to me. But above all of that, I know I already have the ultimate breakthrough I need most through Christ Jesus, my salvation. May I always remember this; may I always be steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord my labor is never in vain. Jesus, through you, I know the Father has given me the victory now and forever. Amen.
