I’m not saying that if a woman owns these items, God is telling you that she is your future wife. Rather, I’m saying these items are a green flag from God because they show you that she has Christian character and values.
Therefore, here are five items that many truly biblical women own and most godless women would never own.
1. Resources that Help Them Grow with God (Bible, Commentaries, Christian Non-Fiction Books)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
The first resource every Christian must possess is a Bible. Of course, there are countries where it is hard to have a Bible, and so we shouldn’t be judging those Christians. But in America, there is no excuse for a Christian not to have a Bible.
Not only should she have a Bible, but she should have a well-worn Bible. Like a weathered compass in the hands of a seasoned traveler—it shows she has journeyed with God, and it points to the true north of Christ.
In addition to the Scriptures, a godly woman will usually have resources to help her understand her Bible better. She will have books by her favorite pastor or theologian. She will subscribe to biblical podcasts. And she will have past workbooks filled from previous Bible studies.
2. A Modest Wardrobe (Shirts that Cover Her Breasts and Belly, Shorts and Pants that Cover Her Butt)
“. . . likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.” (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Remember the three Bs: no butts, no boobs, no bellies. If her clothing is meant to highlight these areas rather than cover them in modesty, it’s a red flag.
A woman should never be ashamed of the body God has given her. Her body is not a temptation. A man can be tempted by her body, but that is his issue. I’m simply stating that worldly women love to use their bodies to manipulate men. Their body is not the issue. How they are using their body is the problem.
A godly woman, however, won’t rely on her body to attract the right man. A man and a woman should be attracted to each other. But a godly woman is going to want a man who actually loves her and who’s not just attracted to her body. Thus, she will want to dress modestly.
3. Entertainment that Is Not Sinful (Movies, Fiction Books, Hobby Equipment, Music)
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)
God isn’t against entertainment. However, God is against us using entertainment that tempts us into sin and celebrates godlessness. So the movies, music, and books she owns will give you a good clue about her character.
Is her movie cue filled with disgusting entertainment, or things that don’t make you feel like you just got thrown up on? Does she know all the lyrics to songs that celebrate lust, or does she listen to wholesome music that celebrates good values? Does she read smut, or good stories that make you think?
How we relax and unwind says a lot about our walk with God.
4. A Phone that Is Not Controlling Her
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us . . .” (Hebrews 12:1)
A smartphone is a tool. A person’s character will determine how that tool is used. A person with low character and low self-control will be controlled by their phone. They will constantly be checking it and prioritizing it over the people who are in the real world with them.
A woman with high character and good self-control will control her phone rather than being controlled by it. She will set up healthy limits, she will not have toxic apps on it, and she will put her phone away so she can actually focus on you when you two are together.
5. A Journal Filled with Prayers and Reflections
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
A prayer journal reveals a woman who doesn’t just talk about prayer but practices it. Writing down prayers, lessons from Scripture, and testimonies of God’s faithfulness is evidence of an active relationship with Christ. It shows humility, teachability, and gratitude.
