4 Things Satan Uses to Attach You to the Wrong Woman

Ephesians 4:27

Satan can’t make you do anything. Scripture is clear that any time we sin, the only person to blame is ourselves (James 1:14).

However, Scripture is also clear that Satan and other demons are constantly trying to tempt people away from God’s path and towards sin (1 Thessalonians 3:5).

Therefore, this isn’t about blaming the devil for our own bad choices with women. Rather, this is about exposing the devil’s tactics, so you don’t get attached to the wrong woman.

1. Satan Uses Pride to Get You Attached to the Wrong Woman

“Oh, man, Mark is crazy! Is he seriously telling us that Satan is real? That the devil cares about our relationships, like he doesn’t have anything better to do? I’m not an idiot. I know how to avoid the wrong woman!”

If you’re prideful and think this can’t happen to you, you’ve just taken the first step towards this happening to you.

Do you remember how Peter replied when Jesus warned him about Satan’s temptation (John 13:36-38)? Peter instantly denied that he could ever deny Jesus. His pride about his own ability to resist temptation was actually used by the devil to lead him into temptation (Proverbs 16:18).

If Peter had been humble and believed Jesus’ warning that he was susceptible to betrayal, he could have actually done something to prevent it. But because he couldn’t even imagine he was capable of betraying Jesus, he took the first step toward doing so.

When it comes to avoiding toxic people, Scripture warns us not to be prideful about our own ability to resist temptation. 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” We’re told not to deceive ourselves about this because in pride we are prone to do so: “Me? I’m not weak like those other men. I can spend time with this woman without getting attached. Trust me!”

Trust Scripture, not yourself. Satan himself fell to pride; therefore, he knows how powerful it is when tempting others (1 Timothy 3:6).

2. Satan Uses Proximity to Get You Attached to the Wrong Woman

Spending time with someone you know you shouldn’t get attached to is like smoking cigarettes while hoping you don’t get addicted. No one likes cigarettes at first. But if you push through the nasty beginning, you end up getting attached, and then they kill you from the inside out.

The same is true with a toxic woman. When you first meet her, you’ll instantly know she’s bad news. But if you play with fire and keep messing around, you will get attached to her, and then she will corrupt your life from the inside out.

Notice the advice given about avoiding the adulterous woman. Proverbs 5:8, “Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house . . .” In other words, you won’t lust after a woman and get intoxicated by her deceitful words if you never let yourself be around her in the first place. The same is true for all toxic women. If you want to avoid getting attached, it starts with just avoiding them altogether.

Ephesians 4:27, “And give no opportunity to the devil.”

3. Satan Uses the Temptation of Power to Get You Attached to the Wrong Woman

Many guys don’t fall into certain sins simply because they never get the opportunity. When opportunity arises, however, and there is no accountability, that’s often when men get tempted to do stupid things.

And toxic women know this. Evil women are willing to be used to get what they want. They know that if they give men the power to do whatever they want, most men will give in. While this seems like the woman is getting taken advantage of, which is true, she’s also doing this to gain power over the man. She will give you power over her simply to gain power over you.

So watch for the woman who’s offering herself to you, promising you that no one needs to know. By tempting you with power, she’s actually seeking to gain power.

James 3:16, “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”

4. Satan Uses Other People to Get You Attached to the Wrong Woman

James 4:4, “You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

When you surround yourself with friends who are getting attached to worldly people, you will begin to feel left out. You will feel lonely as you watch everyone else have someone. You might say to yourself, “Look at all these worldly people falling in love. I’m trying to follow God, but here I am all alone.”

In the moment, you will have to suffer alone. Later on, however, those people will suffer much longer for making sinful attachments (Psalm 37:7-13).

Don’t let your friends shame you into compromising. Don’t let the crowds tempt you to join the sinful masses. Don’t let the world’s lies make you believe you’re the crazy one.

Avoid getting attached to the wrong woman so that when the Lord brings the right woman, you’ll be ready. 2 Timothy 2:22, “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
