3 Signs a Man Is God’s Choice for You

Proverbs 31:29

As a Christian woman, you don’t want to marry just anyone. Even if you really like a man, deep down, what you care about most is that you are choosing the man God wants you to choose.

So how will you know which man is “God’s choice” for you?

Here are 3 signs you will be able to see when God is revealing the man he has selected for you.

1. God’s Choice for You Will Love God More Than You

Is God a narcissist?

When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment in all Scripture is, he answered, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). Throughout the Bible, we see statements from God like, “my glory I give to no other” (Isaiah 42:8), “Who is like me?” (Isaiah 44:7), and “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:6).

God is certainly God-centered. He absolutely does require all the glory. What God desires most from us is our love and worship. And God is definitely not a narcissist! Why? Because God is not demanding our praise because he hates us. He’s demanding it because he loves us. God knows he’s the best. He’s not being prideful. He’s just being honest. God deservers our love and praise, and God knows we are blessed through our love and praise of him. Our good and God’s glory are beautifully intertwined:

  • Jeremiah 7:23, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.”
  • Jeremiah 32:39, “I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.”
  • Psalm 89:15 (NIV), “Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you . . .”

God’s choice for you won’t be idolizing you. His desire will not be to worship you but to worship God with you. Your love and pleasure in each other will actually be enhanced and protected when you both love God more than you love each other.

2. God’s Choice for You Will Love You More than He Loves Any Other Woman

His heart won’t be divided. He won’t have questions like, “I wonder if there is someone better out there for me?”

Of course it will take time for a man to fully know if you’re the one for him. I’m not saying he will instantly prioritize you over every other woman. But if he is the man God has chosen for you, eventually he will realize he doesn’t want a relationship unless that relationship is with you.

If he’s not pursuing you, he’s not God’s choice for you. When God gives a man a desire for you, that man will not be able to resist that desire. He will have to try to satisfy it. He will be unable not to pursue you. Some guys will just pursue any woman that gives them attention. When you’ve met the right guy, he will only have eyes for you.

While a godly man will refuse to put a woman above his love for God, he will put the woman God has for him above every other woman. As the Proverbs 31 woman’s husband said of her, “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all” (Proverbs 31:29).

3. God’s Choice for You Will Be the Man You Want to Choose for Yourself

People get very confused when they start thinking about God making choices for us. Does this mean we don’t have free will? Does this mean we will be forced to do something we don’t want to do?

Biblically, when God has chosen something for you, this will manifest through your desire and not despite your desires. When God chooses someone to be saved, for example, that person doesn’t reluctantly come to Jesus. Their heart is changed and they actually want to follow Jesus (John 6:44). Ezekiel 36:26-27 states:

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”

Likewise, when God reveals the man he’s chosen for you, this will be confirmed through you wanting to choose this man for yourself. When you are following the Lord and not living in sin, your desire becomes one with God’s desire. You will hate what God hates and love what God loves.

And this truth will play out in your relationships as well. You will realize you could not have chosen a better spouse than the one God has chosen for you.
