Is your desire for that man coming from God or just from yourself? Here are five things that happen when a man was sent to you by God.
And in many of my articles, you only need a few points to really know what God is saying. However, in this case, I believe you should see all 5 points before concluding that God has actually sent this man to you.
- A Man Was Sent to You By God If His Influence Enhances Your Obedience to Scripture
Everything God does enhances our ability to live out the Scriptures. Everything Satan does seeks to decrease our ability to live out the Scriptures. Therefore, even when it comes to a man in your life, to really know if he is sent by God or not, you must look at what effect he is having on your ability to follow God’s word.
When God sends a man, that man wants to help you flee from sexual immorality as 1 Corinthians 6:18 states, he will encourage your church attendance as Hebrews 10:25 states, and he will help you put God first as Matthew 6:33 states. But when Satan has sent you a man, this man will pressure you into sexual sin, he will distract you from your church family, and he will want you to worship him rather than God.
God’s man will be obeying Hebrews 10:24 as he interacts with you, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works . . .”
- A Man Was Sent to You By God If His Presence Makes You Happy
While God will send you a man who checks the biblical boxes, he will also send you a man who checks the necessary personal boxes, too. Notice, however, that I said he will check the “necessary personal boxes.” That is different than saying this man will check all of your personal desires for a husband.
So what are the necessary personal boxes for relationships from a biblical perspective? Basically, for a marriage to be biblical, a man and woman just need to want to be together. It is meant to be personal. If you would be unhappy to marry a man, that is not the man God has for you. While God’s choice for you will not have everything you think you wanted, you will still be very happy to be with him.
As 1 Corinthians 7:36 states, “If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry—it is no sin.” This verse teaches us that if you can be happy without marrying someone, you should not marry them. When you are called to marry someone, you will know this person will increase your joy.
- A Man Was Sent to You By God If He Is Pursuing You in a Biblical Way
Sometimes a woman is so starved of male attention that she convinces herself a man was sent to her by God simply because that man is pursuing her. But pursuit alone is not enough. Rather, when God sends a man, that man will pursue you in a righteous way.
Think of Boaz. He didn’t just marry Ruth because he wanted to. He followed the proper steps to pursue her honorably (Ruth 3:11-13).
- A Man Was Sent to You By God If Both of Your Paths Are Converging Into One
The best way to meet the person God wants you to marry one day is by seeking God with all of your heart and then looking to see who is next to you. When God truly sends a man, he will do so when you are both following Jesus. He will converge your two paths into one as he unites you into a partnership for his glory.
As God said in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” To fulfill God’s design for marriage, a man and woman must be on mission together. They are to help each other accomplish God’s work.
- A Man Was Sent to You By God If Your Relationship Is Blessing Others Too
So often, we only think of the relationship itself between a man and a woman. But as Christians, we must never forget that God doesn’t call us to be exclusively inward-focused. Rather, God calls Christians to fulfill The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
Thus, when a Christian man and woman join together in marriage, they are called to fulfill The Great Commission together.
And if you’re a Christian single woman who wants to be pursued by this type of godly man, my newest book is for you. It’s called Invite Him: 16 Rules from Ruth to Help Your Future Husband Find You.
