Have you ever wondered why you can’t let someone go in your heart even though you know in your mind that this person is not good for you? Do you keep letting yourself get misused by an unstable person because you feel badly for them? Or do you feel obligated to help someone even though they constantly take you for granted? If so, you may be experiencing a trauma bond.
Do you have a desire for someone that just isn’t going away? But do you also sense this desire is not going to be fulfilled? Are you holding onto a relationship that God doesn’t want for you?
As this article goes on, I’m going to also talk about having a desire for someone that God does not want you with.
When your memories are filled with images of a certain person, you can begin to wonder what God is trying to say to you through these memories. Does your continued thoughts about this person mean God wants you give them another chance? Or is there some other reason for why you can’t forget this person?
In this article, I’m specifically talking about a relationship situation that involves two single people who are not currently dating but one of these people has romantic feelings for the other.
Psalm 143:5, “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.” Remembering the past can be extremely helpful as you live in the present. However, like all good things, we can misuse our memories too.
Was it a lack of faith? If you prayed in a more biblical way, would God have given you that relationship? And if God knew you would not end up with this person, why did he let you fall in love with them to begin with?
God doesn’t want you to be lonely. However, God wastes nothing. Even though God wants you to be satisfied in him, in a healthy community, and thriving in a godly relationship (if that’s his will), there’s often a process God will put you through rather than just magically ending your loneliness.
No matter what, you are all in with life. You can’t stop the clock. There’s no pause button. Every day, you are spending the resources God has given you. Whether you are sitting alone on your coach, traveling the world with a group of friends, or you are serving those in need, God will judge you on how you are spending the life he has given you.
