3 Biblical Marks of an Evil Man Sent By Satan

1 Peter 3:7

In my previous article called 4 Biblical Marks of an Evil Person Sent By Satan, we talked about signs that God will use to warn us about an evil person in general. But what about males specifically? What signs will God use to warn his daughters about a man with bad intentions?

Here are 3 biblical marks of an evil man sent by Satan.

1. An Evil Man Sent By Satan Will Be Marked By An Unbiblical Application of Relationship Roles

Much abuse has occurred by those who have misapplied verses like Ephesians 5:22, which states, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.”

God actually wants wives to submit to their husbands. This was not a cultural command written by Paul that no longer applies to modern Christians. In fact, in 1 Timothy 2:11-14, Paul links a wife’s submission to the creation story, which takes place before sin and culture entered the equation. Thus, it would be a mistake to try to minimize Ephesians 5:22 to make it mean something less than it does.

When a man and woman are living biblically, it will actually be a joy for the wife to submit because the husband will be leading her through sacrificial love. This is why Ephesians 5:22 has that little line at the end, “as to the Lord.” How does the Lord lead? He leads through sacrificial love. In Mark 10:42-45, Jesus said:

You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

An evil man sent by Satan will take what the Scriptures say about relationship roles and twist it for his own sinful pleasures. He will ignore what the Bible says to him about laying his life down like Christ does for the church (Ephesians 5:25) and he will become hyper focused on the woman’s submitting to him.

Notice too that nowhere in Scripture does God call a man to make a woman submit. Anytime the Scriptures talk about a wife’s submission, it always talks directly to her (Ephesians 5:22, Colossians 3:18, 1 Peter 3:1). In other words, her submission is her choice. An evil man will try to force her to submit through force, guilt, and manipulative tactics.

2. An Evil Man Sent By Satan Will Be Marked By an Ability to Manipulate Your Weaknesses as a Woman

Every individual is different. However, men tend to have many similar weakness and strengths as other men and women tend to have many similar weaknesses and strengths as other women. This is not to say that men have more strengths or more weaknesses that woman, nor vice-versa. Rather, it’s simply stating that oftentimes men and women have different strengths and different weaknesses than each other.

God made it this way because he wants a man and woman to form a team (1 Peter 3:7). A good team is not made from a bunch of people who have the same gifts. Rather, the best teams are diverse so that they can help each other’s weakness by using their own strengths (1 Corinthians 12:12-31). In marriage, God wants a man and woman to complement each other as they function in the husband/father roles and the wife/mother roles (Genesis 1:27).

An evil man sent by Satan, however, will try to hone in on a woman’s weakness and exploit that for wicked purposes. As Paul warned in 2 Timothy 3:6, “For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions . . . .” He wasn’t saying all women are like this. Rather, he’s saying that evil men will have the ability to exploit a woman’s weaknesses if she has them.

For example, if an evil man senses a woman is particularly sensitive about her self-image, he will target that to manipulate her. If he senses she is too soft spoken and lacks courage to say no, he will use force to push her around. If he senses she wants a relationship too badly, he will promise her commitment if she gives him sex before marriage.

Just as an evil woman would exploit a man’s weakness, so too will an evil man exploit a woman’s weakness.

3. An Evil Man Sent By Satan Will Say What You Want Him to Say Even Though He Won’t Do What You Want Him to Do

Of course this is a mark of any evil person, whether man or woman. But when an evil man is using this tactic, he will find out what your greatest desire is as a woman and he will verbalize that to you even though he knows he will never actually do what he says.

Romans 16:18 states, “For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.” You can’t control an evil man sent by Satan. He’s going to try to smooth talk you and flatter you. The only thing you can do is not be one of those women who are included in that phrase “the hearts of the naive.”

When you are sober-minded and walking with the Lord, you will pickup on this type of evil man sent by Satan and you will send him packing (Romans 16:17-20).
