Many Christian single men who want to be married carry an inner fear: “What if my future wife is out there, but I’m missing God’s signs? What if I pursue the wrong woman and step outside God’s will?”
That fear often leads to paralysis. Instead of moving forward wisely, many men just wait, which actually adds to the confusion. To meet the woman God has for you, you don’t need to have perfect emotional clarity, a supernatural sign, or circumstances free from all barriers.
By studying Genesis 2:15-25, we can identify 4 biblical ways God leads a man to the right woman.
Also, my new book was just released. It’s called Masculinity on Mission: Reclaim What God Intended for Your Manhood. And for everyone who purchases a copy before the end of 2/10/26, I’m giving you two of my relationship training courses at AGW University and seven of my other books (in PDF format). 1. God Will Lead You to the Right Woman After You’re Doing God’s Will
- “If I just had a wife, then I would be able to overcome my sexual addictions.”
- “Once I meet a Christian woman, then I’ll get back on track with my church attendance and daily devotionals.”
- “When marriage becomes a possibility, then I’ll start applying myself more in my career.”
A lot of men put the cart before the horse. They believe they need a woman before they can truly do God’s work. But notice that this was the opposite of what happened for Adam and Eve. Genesis 2:18 says, “Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” What does this “Then” refer to? What’s striking is what happens before Eve ever appears. Genesis 2:15-17 states:
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Before God revealed the right woman to Adam, God had directed Adam to do his will. He gave him moral guidance and a practical job description, and “Then” the Lord God said Adam needed a wife.
Therefore, if you want God to reveal the right woman to you, you need to make sure you are prepared for her first. Another way to put it is that God will give you a wife when you need one. God didn’t send Adam help before Adam needed help. Adam needed to work by himself and obey the Lord individually before he was ready to receive the woman.
God does not bring a wife to a man who is waiting passively for clarity. Rather, he brings a wife to the man who is already walking in obedience.
2. God Will Lead You to the Right Woman Through Engagement, Not Isolation
Over the years, a handful of men have cited Genesis 2 to justify not pursuing a woman. They point to Adam just waiting and sleeping, and then God brought Eve to him. But in fact, that is not true. Before God brought the right woman to Adam, Adam was searching for the right woman throughout all creation. Genesis 2:19-20 states:
Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.”
While Adam was doing the work God wanted him to do, Adam also had an eye out for the woman he sensed God wanted him to have. The phrase “But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him” insinuates that he was searching.
Additionally, Adam’s search for the woman before God brought her prepared him to recognize her when she arrived, as Genesis 2:23 states: “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.”
Likewise, if you want God to reveal the right woman to you, you need to be an active participant in the search. When you interact with women as you are following the Lord’s will for your life, you will know you haven’t found her. But then, when the Lord brings her, you will sense the difference. You will know God has brought your helper to you by seeing how different your relationship with her is compared to the other women you have met.
Many men today are isolated, waiting for certainty before stepping out. But biblical clarity usually comes through movement, not meditation alone. God allowed Adam to feel the absence before he supplied the answer.
Isolation breeds confusion. Engagement breeds discernment.
3. God Will Reveal the Right Woman to You By Bringing Her to You Himself
While Adam was searching for a wife, it’s also true that God is the one who had to make the right helper for him. God didn’t call Adam to make the woman himself. Rather, he simply called Adam to receive and recognize the right woman when he brought the woman to Adam. Genesis 2:21-23 states:
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
When God finally creates Eve, Adam doesn’t wrestle with whether she’s “the one.” There’s no sign-seeking, no anxiety about feelings, no fear of missing God’s will. Adam recognizes what God has provided because he is spiritually positioned to receive it.
One of the biggest mistakes Christian men make today is believing that God’s will depends on choosing perfectly rather than walking rightly. God doesn’t ask you to predict the future. Rather, God promises to shape the future so you won’t miss his will when you are walking in obedience to him.
Proverbs 3:6 doesn’t say, “Acknowledge God by carefully choosing the perfect path out of the millions of choices you have.” Rather, it states, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
When you are submitting to God, it’s impossible to miss the right path because he sovereignly straightens the path you’re on. This doesn’t depend on your ability to follow the path; it depends on God’s ability to shape the path. But he will only do this for those who depend on him in all of their ways.
4. God Will Reveal the Right Woman to You When You’re Prepared to Leave and Cleave
Some men are mature enough in practical ways for marriage. They have already left dependency behind, meaning they don’t need their parents to support them anymore. And yet, many of these men are not prepared spiritually and emotionally to cleave to a woman in marriage.
On the other hand, there are many men who are emotionally and spiritually ready to cleave to a woman, but they are underdeveloped in practical ways that make them unfit to be the head of a household in marriage.
But notice Genesis 2:24-25 states, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”
