5 Marks of an Entitled Woman Who Would Ruin Your Life

Proverbs 4:23

Here are 5 signs of an entitled woman that you should avoid at all costs.

1. She’s Entitled If She Complains About a Simple Date When You’re Just Getting to Know Her

Imagine you invite a woman you barely know to grab coffee. She responds, “Coffee? Really? Is that what you think of me?”

Or perhaps you suggest going for a hike at a beautiful park, and she says, “A hike? What, you don’t want to spend any money on me?”

A woman who expects a large investment from a man who doesn’t even know isn’t looking for a future godly husband as much as she is looking for someone who will fund the lifestyle she wants.

Proverbs 21:20 says, “Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.” A wise man thinks about how he uses his resources. He doesn’t waste them on every woman who bats an eyelash at him.

And a wise woman will appreciate the fact that he’s not frivolous. A godly woman will feel appreciated when you spend money on her, but a worldly woman will expect it and shame you when you don’t.

2. She’s Entitled If She Wants a Traditional Man But Wants to Be a Modern Woman

A godly woman should expect a lot from a godly man. Scripture calls husbands to sacrificially love their wives, provide leadership, and care for their families. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

That’s a high calling. But biblical marriage doesn’t give one person all the responsibilities and the other person all the benefits. Ephesians 5:22 says, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.”

An entitled woman may say she wants a man who leads, provides, protects, initiates, sacrifices, and takes responsibility. But then when you look at what she expects from herself, there is very little willingness to sacrifice in return.

Godly women see marriage as a relationship with two complementary roles. Entitled women see marriage as a contract that puts all the power at their disposal. They want the benefits of traditional marriage without accepting the responsibilities that come with it.

Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

3. She’s Entitled If She Expects Your Relationship with Women to Change While Her Relationship with Other Men Does Not

When a man and woman become serious about each other, the relationship should change how they interact with people of the opposite sex.

This doesn’t mean you can demand that she never speak to another man. Christians will have coworkers, friends, church relationships, family members, and normal interactions with the opposite sex.

But when you’re seriously pursuing one another, there should be increasing clarity, loyalty, and appropriate boundaries.

An entitled woman may want you to treat her differently from every other woman while she continues enjoying the attention of other men.

For example, she gets upset when a female friend says hello to you at church. She asks, “Who was that?” Or she becomes jealous when another woman comments on your social media.

But meanwhile, she’s texting another man constantly, talking to him on the phone late at night, or enjoying his obvious romantic attention while insisting, “He’s just a friend.”

That’s a double standard and a disrespectful sign of entitlement. Don’t tolerate such nonsense. You should value her, but she needs to value you too. If she is one-sided in this area, avoid her (Proverbs 4:23).

4. She’s Entitled If She Wants You to Sacrifice Your Goals for Hers

You can’t get into a serious relationship with someone and expect your life to continue exactly as it was when you were alone. Both people will have to make sacrifices.

But entitlement appears when one person’s dreams are automatically treated as more important than the other’s.

For example, she expects you to move across the country for her career but refuses to consider how that move would affect your work.

She expects you to give up an opportunity you’ve worked toward for years because it would be inconvenient for her.

And when it comes to careers, a man should put his career over the woman’s because he’s called to be the provider. While it’s not wrong for a woman to value her career, a godly woman
will value her role as a wife and mother above her career goals (Titus 2:3-5). Men must value their family above their career goals, too, but their career success is more directly correlated with the benefit of the family.

5. She’s Entitled If She Has a Superior Attitude Toward You

It’s not always what she says but how she says it. It’s not always about what she does but how she does it. Two people can say and do the same things but make you feel very differently because their attitudes are unalike.

Entitlement isn’t merely an action. It’s also an attitude. It can become a spirit that is evident in the way someone interacts with you. It’s not just that you see it. It’s more so that you feel it.

Ultimately, you shouldn’t be looking for a woman who expects nothing from you. A godly wife should expect you to love her sacrificially, lead faithfully, provide responsibly, and treat her with honor. But you should also look for a woman who understands that biblical love is mutual.

Romans 12:10, “Outdo one another in showing honor.”
