This Divine Experiment

This Divine Experiment

John 14:12-17

What if I believed you and did what you said,
What would happen to me if I followed the One risen from the dead?

So much of my life has been spent somewhere in the middle,
For God has offered oceans of blessings and fruitfulness, but I have walked on water oh so little.

It’s frightening to admit what the Bible clearly claims,
That belief is tied to obedience, that these two are one in the same.

It’s easy to claim that I believe and have faith,
But on a daily basis so many opportunities to obey simply go to waste.

A worthwhile experiment would be to trust God daily as we take him at his words,
To simply obey at all cost because we believe what he said, that we are more valuable than mere birds.

Perhaps this is the reason my life is always stuck in the middle,
Because when I read his plane words I act like they are some sort of riddle.

But they’re not, for he simply states, “Believe, obey, and you will be used greatly and blessed,
Ask in my name, for my glory, and your life will shine greater than the rest.”

Someday, there will be no time left to see what God could have done with his tiny, trusting remnant,
So will we, with the rest of our lives, dedicate ourselves to this divine experiment?

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
