3 Signs God Is Preparing to Heal You After a Huge Loss in Your Life

Matthew 5:3-12

While some people certainly have experienced an instant healing form the Holy Spirit, in most cases, when God heals someone, he does so through a process.

Perhaps something tragic happened in your childhood and now as an adult you still feel that loss. Perhaps you lost a relationship in the past and you thought you would be over it by now. Or perhaps you even lost a loved one who was taken from you too soon in life.

No matter what type of loss you experienced in life, God can heal you. So here are 3 signs God is preparing to heal you after a huge loss in your life.

1. If God Is Showing You that Jesus Is the Only Answer After You Lost Something in Life, This Is a Sign God Is Preparing You for a Huge Healing

I wish I could promise you that everything you lost in life will be restored perfectly in this life, but that is not always the case. When someone we love passes away for example, that person is not able to come back in this lifetime, though if they are a Christian and we are a Christian we will see them again. When some people lose a spouse, some of them find love again but some of them don’t even though they wish they could. Some people will long for a physical healing and receive it while others will not receive it in this lifetime.

So what should we make of all this? Does God only love those whom he heals in this lifetime? What about all those unmet longings in the human heart that will go unfulfilled on earth? The true answer to hard questions like this is Jesus. He alone is the true answer. Jesus is the one true answer because he is the one true solution to the human heart’s main problem.

While a loss of a job, a relationship, or even a loved one is extremely tragic, the greatest loss in everyone’s life is ultimately our broken connection with our loving Heavenly Father. Only Jesus can restore this deepest loss. In John 10:9-14, Jesus said:

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.”

The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus has come to bring abundant life. So no matter what you have lost in life, you will only be found when you embrace Jesus as your one and only Savior. God has not promised to be our genie, granting us our every earthly wish. Rather, God has promised to be the ultimate fulfillment of all our longings himself. Everything we have lost in life, everything that we long for in life – all of it is an echo of our longing for God himself. This does not mean that the things we lost in life are not important, but without God nothing in life will be right. He is what brings us everlasting joy in our highs and in our losses.

May we cling to Jesus and find the healing our hearts crave, for as Jesus said in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

2. If God Is Reminding You of the Reward You Will Receive If You Remain Faithful During the Hard Times, This Is a Sign God Is Preparing to Heal You from Huge Losses in Your Life

Perhaps what does the most damage when we lose something in life is the loss of joy in our hearts. A joyless heart, a heart without life in it, a heart that seems to have nothing to live for – this type of heart cannot survive for long.

God will bring healing to a heart like this by reminding this person that though times are hard now, there is good planned for you in the future if you remain faithful during the trials. Notice the tone through Jesus’ words when he lists his famous beatitudes. Jesus reminds us that before the reward there is always a trial. In Matthew 5:3-12 he states:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Before God gives us eternal gains, he often makes us experience earthly losses. But let us cling to the words of Jesus. If we remain faithful to God on earth no matter what losses we experience, we will reap an eternal reward in Christ that can never be taken away.

3. If God Is Increasing Your Hope for the Complete Healing We Will Only Experience in Heaven (and on the New Earth), This Is a Sign God Is Showing You the Path to Healing After a Huge Loss in This Life

In every promise God gives to his people, there is “a now and a not yet” element to it. Ultimately, we have the fulfillment of every promise from God in Christ right now. Ephesians 1:3 states, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 explains, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in [Jesus Christ]. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.”

But, as we know through studying the Scriptures and through experiencing life on earth, there is an element to the promises of God that we have not yet fully tasted. There is perfection ahead in the next life that we have not experienced on this broken earth. This is why in Revelations 21:4 we are reminded of the future hope we have when every earthly loss will be restored. It states, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

So if God is giving you heavenly eyes, eyes set on the total fulfillment of every promise in heaven and on the new Earth to come, this is a sign God is preparing your heart for the deep healing that only comes through hoping in Christ alone.
