3 Ways to Stop Satan from Keeping You Single

1 John 4:4

Marriage is a gift from God for those who have been blessed with this gift, and according to 1 Corinthians 7:7, singleness is a blessing from God as well. Therefore, it would not be biblical to say that Satan is trying to keep everyone single, but it is biblical to say that Satan always wants God’s people to do the opposite of what God wants.

Therefore, since God does want many of his people to honor him in marriage one day, it is clear that one of Satan’s big goals is to prevent godly marriages from forming for those people God has called to get married.

So if you are someone who desire to be married one day for the glory of God, here are 3 ways you can stop Satan from keeping you single.

1. If You Want to Stop Satan from Keeping You Single, Start Preparing in Advance Before the Spiritual Battles Even Start

The most important battles in life are usually won and lost before the actual fighting takes place. In other words, victory and preparation are almost always tide together. When we do not prepare well for the spiritual battles we face, we don’t do well. This is why we are warned in Ephesians 6:10-12 to get ready before we are actually attacked. It states:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Spiritual warfare is an easy category to forget about in life, but we do so at our own peril. Not only is it easy to ignore spiritual warfare in general, it is also easy to ignore it in the specific areas of our lives like in relationships. While our walk with God is Satan’s primary target, he hates anything that brings glory to God and helps our walk with the Lord. Therefore, Satan really hates a godly relationship between a Christian man and woman who want to honor the Lord together.

If you want to stop Satan from keeping you single, you have to prepare well for the spiritual battles ahead.

2. If You Want to Stop Satan from Keeping You Single, You Have to Know What You Should Be Pursuing and What You Should Be Avoiding

Quite simply, Satan always wants you to do the opposite of what God wants you to do. If God wants you to date a Christian, Satan will want you to date a non-Christian. If God wants you to abstain from premarital sex, Satan will want you to have premarital sex. If God wants you to pursue a godly marriage, Satan will want you to passively pursue a life of singleness.

Therefore, to avoid what Satan wants and to pursue what God wants for you, you have to first clarify exactly what these categories are for you individually. So many times in life Christians get confused about what is God and what is Satan because they have not clearly defined what type of season God wants them in right now.

For example, if you know God has released you to actively pursue a godly marriage, then you will be able to resist the spiritual warfare tempting you to play it safe because you fear getting hurt. But if you know God is telling you to just focus on him right now and not pursue a relationship, then you will be better equipped to resist the spiritual warfare tempting you to pursue a relationship that is not in God’s timing for you right now.

But if you don’t really know what God is telling you to pursue and what God is telling you to avoid, you will be making Satan’s job that much easier to confuse you and lead you away from God’s will for you right now.

Ultimately, this is why the word of God is our primary weapon against Satan. When we know God’s truth, we will know what he wants us to pursue and what he wants us to avoid. When you have Scriptures memorized in your heart and ready to be used in the battle, you will be much better equipped to detect Satan’s lies and combat them with God’s truth. For as Ephesians 6:17 teaches us, in our fight against Satan we must take up “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

3. If You Want to Stop Satan from Keeping You Single, You Must Continue to Feed Your Faith in God

God works through faith. Satan works through doubt. It’s as simple as that. This is why in Ephesians 6:16 we are commanded, “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

In Romans 12:3 we are told that God gives us faith as a gift, but in 2 Timothy 1:6 we are taught that we must take care of our gifts from God and grow them, for it states, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God . . . .”

So if we want to defeat Satan’s lies with faith, we have to keep feeding our faith daily. Faith is not something that we can just possess and then ignore. Biblical faith needs to be fed daily. Like a flame, it needs fuel and oxygen to keep growing.

Our relationship with God must always be our top priority. When we prioritize our connection with God every day before anything else, we are guarding against these attacks from Satan. Before we check our phones, before we launch into the day, before we do anything significant, we must feed our faith in God with prayer and Bible study.

Never forget that Satan has no authority over you when you are walking with God, for as 1 John 4:4 states, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
