4 Spiritual Reasons You Need to Open Your Bible Every Day

Dear Christian, I’m Begging You to Open Your Bible Every Day

Hebrews 4:12-13

A closed Bible is like starving because you won’t open the fridge. It’s like getting attacked but keeping your sword in the sheath. It’s like complaining that your lover never calls you while you also never look at your phone to check.

When you open your Bible, amazing things happen in the spiritual realm, in your heart, and most importantly to your connection with God. So here are 4 spiritual reasons you must always read your Bible every day.

And if you haven’t heard, I have a brand-new set of courses specifically designed for Christian singles who desire biblical relationship advice. There’s only two more days to enroll, so if you want to learn more and receive a scholarship to AGW University, feel free to click here before the September 1st (11:59pm) deadline.

1. When You Open Your Bible, the Demons Flee

Do you ever wake up in the morning with an unexplainable heaviness, like an invisible weight is in the air, pushing you down? Do you drive to work in worry, silently suffering in your own mind as you think of having to endure your evil co-workers or oppressive boss? Or perhaps you have a desire to please the Lord, but every time you recommit yourself, it seems a burst of new temptations come flying into your life?

Ephesians 6:12 explains, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

We must not blame demons for every problem we face on this planet. We make choices, and we will always be responsible for those choices (Galatians 6:7-9). And yet, when you read the Bible, it’s crystal clear that we do have a spiritual enemy working in the unseen realm who are set against us.

Thankfully, God has given us a weapon, his word. Ephesians 6:17-18 states we are to take up “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.”

When Jesus was tempted by the devil, he fought back with the word and said, “It is written . . .” (Luke 4:4, 8, 10). May we likewise read our Bibles every day so that we have the weapons to win the warfare set against us:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

2. When You Open Your Bible, Light Will Shine on Your Path

This world is dark and cruel. The paths we walk are winding and intentionally misleading. Everywhere you look, someone or something is telling you to follow them. So how can we know which is the path God wants us to walk?

Psalm 119:105 states, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” If you want to know where God is telling you to go, then you absolutely must open your Bible every day, read it closely, and prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit to help you apply it to your life.

3. When You Open Your Bible, Your Discernment About People Will Increase

There is a conflict between our heart’s deepest desires for love and this world’s deep void of people with love to give. Faces are so deceiving. Smiles, bright eyes, and smooth words can trick us into falling for people that will only hurt us. So how can we seek to love someone and be loved by someone without also getting mislead? Hebrews 4:12-13 says:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

Through filling your heart with Scripture, the Holy Spirit will then help you know who is walking with God and who is merely pretending. It takes constant practice to have the power to discern good from evil, thus we must take up the word every day (Hebrews 5:12-14).

4. When You Open Your Bible, You Are Hearing the Voice of God

The world shakes their fists at God and yell, “Why are you silent? Why won’t you answer me? If you are real, why don’t you make yourself known?” And yet, all the while, as they shake their fists at God, they also refuse to open the Bible and read it.

If your Bible is closed, you can never say God is silent. Rather, you should say you are not willing to listen to God. God is always speaking through his word, but if we want to hear his voice, we must open it and read it, listening for the Spirit’s guidance.

As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
