When you meet the woman God wants you to marry, what is happening in the spiritual realm?
Oddly enough, spiritual warfare can sometimes be a good sign. That doesn’t mean we should go looking for attacks, and it certainly doesn’t mean it’s good if we give in to temptation. But Scripture shows us that whenever God is doing something meaningful, opposition often follows (2 Timothy 3:12, 1 Peter 5:8-9).
Therefore, here are 5 things Satan often does when a man meets the woman God wants him to marry.
Also, if you’re a Christian single person of any age and you have a desire to glorify the Lord in marriage someday, I created AGW University for you. This is where I offer my most in-depth training for people who are serious about preparing well for a relationship. 1. When You Meet the Woman God Wants You to Marry, Satan Will Tempt You to Feel Like You’re Not Enough
Deep in a man’s heart is often the fear that he doesn’t have the strength to accomplish what God is calling him to. He fears that he won’t be wise enough, successful enough, or capable enough for the woman he truly desires. He wants to lead well, provide well, and love well. But that desire can be twisted into insecurity.
Instead of stepping forward in confidence, a man will be tempted to shrink back in fear. He may hesitate, overthink, or even distance himself emotionally because he is afraid of failure and rejection.
But this fear doesn’t come from God. Scripture reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God gives us a spirit not of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Satan wants you to believe that your worth is based on your performance. God wants you to remember that your identity is rooted in him.
2. When You Meet the Woman God Wants You to Marry, Satan Will Tempt You to Try Too Hard to Impress Her
When a man fears losing a woman he deeply values, he can start striving in unhealthy ways. He may try to impress her constantly, overextend himself, or even compromise his values just to keep her interested.
But fear-driven effort is not the same as godly leadership. Fear leads to pressure, and pressure can damage a relationship. Instead of creating a healthy connection, it can make things feel forced, exhausting, or even inauthentic.
Faith, on the other hand, produces steadiness. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” Faithful men aren’t strong because of the measure of their faith. Rather, they are strong because the object of their faith is strong. They don’t trust in themselves. They trust in Christ!
When you trust God with the outcome, you don’t have to manipulate the process. You can pursue a woman with clarity and intention, but without desperation. When a man surrenders to God’s will and gives up his own, he’s free.
And, ironically, when you stop trying so hard to prove yourself, you become far more attractive in a godly way.
3. When You Meet the Woman God Wants You to Marry, Satan Will Tempt You to Make Her Your Everything
One of the most subtle traps is not rejecting a good relationship but elevating it too high.
When you meet a woman who truly honors God and connects with your heart, it’s easy to start centering your life around her. Your thoughts, your decisions, and even your sense of purpose can begin to revolve around the relationship.
But this is dangerous! No woman, no matter how godly, is meant to carry the weight of being your foundation. Only Christ can do that. Jesus makes this clear in Matthew 7:24-27—your life must be built on the rock, the truth, and not on any person. And in 1 Corinthians 10:4, we are reminded that Christ is the true spiritual rock.
When you make a woman your “everything,” you place pressure on her that she was never designed to carry. This can lead to disappointment, imbalance, and even idolatry.
The right perspective is this: deeply value her, pursue her, and love her—but worship God alone.
When Christ remains at the center, your relationship will actually be stronger, healthier, and more stable.
4. When You Meet the Woman God Wants You to Marry, Satan Will Tempt You to Rush the Process
Men can sometimes feel a strong desire to lock things down quickly when they meet the right woman. There’s a sense of clarity, excitement, and urgency that can make you want to move fast.
But wisdom requires patience. Proverbs 19:2 warns that “desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.”
Even when your intentions are pure, rushing can lead to overlooking important details, bypassing necessary growth, or making a decision before true confirmation has taken place.
1 Corinthians 13:4 reminds us that love is patient. And the Song of Solomon cautions us not to awaken love before the proper time. If this is truly the woman God has for you, you don’t need to rush. God’s will doesn’t require panic to accomplish it.
5. When You Meet the Woman God Wants You to Marry, Satan Will Try to Attack—But God Will Use It for Good
In the end, while Satan will attempt to disrupt, confuse, and divide, he cannot override God’s sovereignty. In fact, many times the very attacks meant to destroy a relationship are used by God to strengthen it.
We see this clearly in Scripture. In John 13:27 and Acts 2:23, Satan influenced the betrayal and crucifixion of Christ. What looked like victory for evil was actually the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Through the cross, Jesus won!
The same principle applies in your relationship. Genesis 50:20 says, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good . . .”
If you stay rooted in Christ, walk in wisdom, and refuse to give in to fear, what the enemy meant to use against you will ultimately be used to bring you closer to God—and, if it is his will, closer to the woman he has for you.
If you’re a Christian single person who wants to be married but doesn’t know how to get there, I created AGW University for you. While I can’t promise you a spouse if you enroll, I can promise you that you will grow immensely if you’re prepared to work hard in your study of Scripture and application of these biblical relationship principles.
