Here are 4 marks of a man sent by Satan to tempt a woman sexually.
1. A Man Sent By Satan to Tempt You Sexually Will Use Long Conversations to Break You Down
When a woman is sexually seduced, she may look back on that incident and say to herself, “How did that happen? One minute we were just talking. And before I knew it, I lost control and allowed myself to commit sexual sin with him. I can believe I did that.”
In truth, however, while it might feel like she lost control all of a sudden, what really happened is that her defenses were being weakened little by little. Usually, this occurs through having long, emotional, deep conversations. And while the woman truly enjoys the conversation, it’s also somewhat exhausting to be so emotionally invested with someone for that long. And if this conversation happens late at night, that’s really the kicker. Usually, a man and woman who find themselves in this situation will fall into sexual sin with each other.
While Proverbs 7 uses an adulterous woman as the warning, the principles obviously apply to both men and women. Notice what Proverbs 7:21-22 says about the length of conversation paired with a sudden sexual fall, “With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter . . . .”
This is why it’s so important for Christians to realize that healthy boundaries must go beyond a list of sexual dos and don’ts. There is such a thing as being emotionally promiscuous, which often leads to sexual promiscuity. Guarding your heart in singleness isn’t just about not having sex or doing physical things outside of marriage. To guard your heart, you also need to guard the time you spend with someone and the conversations you have with them.
Which leads us to point 2.
2. A Man Sent By Satan to Tempt You Sexually Will Talk a Lot About Your Future Together
One way to guard your heart in conversation is to avoid talking about the future with someone too much, particularly when you two haven’t earned the right to talk about your future together yet.
In other words, if you’ve been dating someone for a while and marriage is becoming more realistic, then you two do need to talk about the future. Where would you like to live? Whose house would you move into? How many kids would you like to have? What type of ministry would you like to be involved in together? How will you spend the holidays as a family?
However, when a man was sent by Satan to tempt a woman sexually, he often tries to have conversations with her about these types of topics before it would be wise to do so. When a man starts talking about the future he hopes to have with you, that can tempt you to drop your defenses. And then when he presses you for sex, you might fear losing this future you long for, and so you will be more tempted to give in to his advances so you don’t disappoint him.
But as Song of Solomon 8:4 says (NIV), “Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.” Don’t fall for Satan’s trap. If a man isn’t guarding your heart well and is instead talking about the distant future even though he’s not really that committed to you, he probably just wants to use you sexually.
3. A Man Sent By Satan to Tempt You Sexually Will Isolate You and Consume All Your Time
Separating the prey from the pack is common predatorial behavior. Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”
While these facts should help us see the value in remaining around other Christians, evil people will see these facts and know they need to isolate you if they want to bring you down. Thus, if a man is consuming all your time and isolating you from your Christian community that has been pivotal in your growth, that’s a strong sign he will end up being a sexual temptation to you.
Proverbs 18:1, “Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire . . .”
4. A Man Sent By Satan to Tempt You Sexually Will Pretend to Be a Mature Christian Man
Just because you meet a man at church doesn’t mean he wasn’t sent by Satan to tempt you sexually (1 Corinthians 5:1). There are even false pastors preaching from the stage who use Christianity as a tool to wear women down and sin with them sexually (2 Timothy 3:5-6, 2 Peter 2:1-2.
Many men go to church because they know there are women there that they want to have sex with. Certainly don’t assume every guy at church is that type of man, but you have to be aware that they are there. As 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 says:
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”
