Here are 5 biblical marks of a good man sent by God to a woman.
1. A Good Man Will Be Gospel-Centered Because He Will Know Goodness Comes from God
Without God changing our hearts through the gospel, none of us our good (Ezekiel 36:26-27). An unbeliever can do moral things. But only a believer, because his heart has been changed by grace, can do good things for the right reasons, which is to glorify God through Jesus Christ.
As Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
If a man is not dependent on Christ, if he does not seek the Spirit’s continual refreshing and filling, he cannot be a good man.
2. A Good Man Sent By God Will Marked By the Goodness in the Other Parts of His Life that Have Nothing to Do with You
Many times a woman his blinded by all the good a man is doing for her. He is pursuing her romantically, he is charming, he is speaking her love language, and he is treating her right. However, just because a man is making you feel good in the moment does not mean this is a good man sent by God.
To know if a man is truly a good man, you have to look past your relationship with him and you have to look at his whole life. Is he honest at work, kind to his family, involved in his church, using his gifts to serve others? Is the fruit of the Spirit in his life (Galatians 5:22-23)?
When someone is a true Christian and they are filled with the Spirit, the Bible states that they will produce good out of their heart. As Jesus said in Luke 6:45, “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
3. If You and This Man Compliment God’s Call on Each Other’s Lives, This Is a Strong Signs He Is a Good Man Sent By God to You
Every Christian has a call on their life from God. And each of our calls is going to be very different. When God is pairing a man and woman together, their calls will mesh together. Yes, there will be some adapting. But the adapting will be something the couple is joyful to do together.
If, however, you would have to forsake God’s call on your life or this man would have to deny his call so you two could be together, this is not a good match.
When God sends a woman a good man, this man and her will complement each other in their marriage roles (Ephesians 5:21-33), creating a strong team to accomplish the callings God has given them as individuals and as a couple (Genesis 2:18, 1 Peter 3:7).
4. A Good Man Sent By God Will Not Only Pursue You, But He Will Pursue You in a Pure Way
If you have been longing for a relationship and then a man finally pursues you, it will be tempting to overlook the ways in which this man wants to compromise on Christian morals. However, when God sends you a good man, this man will not just pursue you passionately but he will also pursue you purely.
Mistakes might be made. You two won’t be perfect. However, is he repenting? Is he helping you resist temptation or is he presenting you with temptation? A good man is not just concerned with pursuing you and winning you at any cost. He is also concerned that he honors the Lord through the process.
This was one of the signs that set Boaz a part. Once he understood that he was free to pursue Ruth, he did not let his passions rule him. There was a process that needed to be followed, which is outlined in Ruth 4:1-12. Only after he went through this process does Ruth 4:13 state, “So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son.”
5. A Good Man Sent By God Will Be Marriage Focused
I am not saying a man sent by God will talk about marriage on the first date. It would be unwise of a man to put so much pressure on a woman before their relationship has reached that level.
However, I am saying that a godly man is not going to date you unless he is marriage focused. Dating just to date leads to temptation and sin. A good man will use dating as a means to find a wife. If he knows he’s not ready for a wife, he won’t be dating either.
When a man is following the Lord, he will know he’s not looking for a girlfriend. He’s looking for a wife. As Proverbs 18:22 states, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”
